Custom Limba topped 5 string bass

It has been a while since I did a post on so I thought I would use some wood around the shop to start construction of a new bass to document.  I have several custom builds going on now so this may take some time.  I only work on this type of project when I am waiting for glue to dry and for parts to arrive.

This bass was going to be a 4 string bass similar to my Model 6 basses but I have decided to make her a 5 string bass with a newer shape.  I changed the lower horn and will make this bass a little thicker than my regular thickness.  I will be using EMG 40P and 40J pickups in this bass along with a 2 band EQ.  I think I will go with a 33 inch scale on this bass.

Her neck is Jatoba with two Wenge stringers running the length of the neck.  I will face the headstock with Bliack Limba on the front and Mahogany on the back.  She will get a Rosewood fretboard with 24 frets plus a zero fret.  I will use 6150 wire.

The top started out as a 4X4 inch block about 24 inches long.  It was left over from a previous build.  The block was mostly a light color with one side a dark brown striped area that was about 1.5 inches wide.  I first sliced it up and re glued it back together in a pattern to make a decorative top.
